Clio wont start

Hi lads,
I am posting on behalf of a friend who doesn't have net access.
He has a clio on an X plate 2000. And it wont start unless you press the accelerator pedal, he's had it in the garage and they did something with it and it worked for a few days. When it started doing it again he took it back and they said it didn't come with a guarantee and they wanted another £80 to sort it again. But when he asked what they had done they said they had cleaned out the carb?

now this is a 2000 car i wouldn't expect it to have a carb?

also any idea's as to what the fault could be?
i was thinking maybe a throttle position sensor problem or a blcoked throttle body with the flap closed?

Are there any fault codes, or has anyone with any brains done any proper diagnositcs ?

And you are correct, it does not have a carb. It might be wise not to go back to that "mechanic" again.

he's not had it hooked up yet..

and thats what he thought with regards to the garage.

i havent actually seen the car so i dont know if it runs rough or runs ok once started or if it takes a long time to start etc etc
should be having a peek this weekend all being well.

I'd be tempted the strip the throttle butterfly and clean itup, Clean the sensor ect too while you have it apart.

right then stripping the trhottle body it is then . lets just see if i can get my hands on it between my work + his work
