Hi,

Quick question regarding storage life of engine and gearbox oil.

Have 3/4 bottle (4 litre bottle I recall) of fully synthetic (if that matters?) engine oil remaining from last years oil change. Is this stuff OK to use this time round or does it go 'off' with time? Just being stored in the plastic bottle it came in but as I say has not been used?

Also have a unopened bottle of gearbox oil (1litre) in case of topup - I take it as it is unopened there will be no issues with this (plus the fact that gearbox oil is changed far less regularly than engine oil anyway)?

Thanks in advance.

Out of curiosity is there a 'shelf life' for this stuff? Opened or sealed bottle does that make a difference? Just curious to know.

I saw some oil on the shelf in Halfords that said it was made in 2006 on the label, so im guessing not.

I put the same question to the oil expert who posts on here and was told that shelf life was 1 year. That hasn't stopped me though...
