L/R 300TDi Rear wheel drive conversion?

Is there a gearbox that will mount to a Land Rover 300 TDi engine so that it can be used in RWD formation? I know that some Rover V8's used the same gearbox but I am unsure with regards to the mating with the bellhousing and the length/size of the gearbox input shaft. This is just an interesting idea that came to me today. The only other problems I can see are the conversion to hydraulic clutch, propshaft, making feed and return lines to tank and the height of the engine (32"). It would be going into a Mk5 Cortina. Can I just ask why you'd want to use a 300TDi engine? Seems like a very odd choice...
