I'm a man on the edge,

6 months ago I bought an 840ci to tart up a bit and take to Le Mans (I set off on Wed 10th June). It's not my daily driver. Last night I turned the engine over and it fired up first time. It was running for 2 mins or so and then I cut the power while I applied some le mans decals. About 30mins later, I tried to fire it up again and nothing. All the electrics work- new batteries were fitted about 2 months ago. When the key it turned fully there is a 'click' under the bonnet but nothing else- doesn't even try to turn over.

I waited an hour or so, fearing I may have somehow flooded it, but still nothing.

Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

can you hear the buzz of the fuel pump?
i'd be tempted to say its an immobiliser fault if not.
maybe the starter solenoid wire is at fault or the starter its self.
if its not an auto it may well be worth trying to bump start it.

Obviously all the electrics dont work.

What you describe would point to a starter motor related problem, or perhaps a poor battery.

Take the battery terminals off and clean them up with wire wool or similar, re-fit with a smear of Vaseline wink

Same where earth goes to frame

Give the starter motor body (not the solenoid) a sharp tap with small hammer or metal bar, then try it.
This could just be sticking/worn starter motor brushes.

Reading the post, its not clear if the car had been standing on those new batteries for 2 months, started once then not again? 30 mins of fitting graphics probably had the doors open, locking unlocking etc - hopefully its simply that the new battery has run down too far to fire it up a second time?

Thanks to everyone who has responded.

Crackedfingers- it hasn't been stood for 2 months, more like 2 weeks. Yes the doors were open during the fitting of the stickers. I've set tomorrow to try the above suggestions.
