Astra Turbo Diesel ECU issues

99 plate Astra TD, ECU light keeps flicking on and off. From cold I can make te light go out by flooring it, but after 15 mins driving it comes on continuously and slips into limp home mode. I've had a mates garage plug in the diagnostics and it comes up as nothing stored. I', loathed to go to a MD and be charged £85 ph labour for a 15 year old to work on my car. Anybopdy got an pointers on what to look for ?

Could be many things, maybe your mates diagnostic doesn't have the correct software for your car. Dropping in and out like that could just be a loose sensor for coolant or MAF, this could explain why it didn't bring anything up as it could've been connected ok then. You could try and check all the loom plugs, if you have no joy you'll need it checked with the correct fault code reader.

You can check for the fault code without a reader.
Probably worth a try if you want to avoid the main stealer.
