Power Steering?

Got a VW Golf, and when cold the steering is fine. However when it has been driven a few miles the steering at low speeds is almost unmovable.

Any ideas?

Have you checked it without leakage, it sounds like short of fluid. When cold perhaps it still works using fluid left in the pipe, but in more distance it might need stronger pressure with fluid in the safe level.

Or:

It has the wrong type of fluid in, vw's use a specific fluid, so if you have not used the correct fluid the viscosity may be way out causing the problems you are seeing, standard power steering fluid supposedly cannot be used with dubs.

ETA: Outside chance, seal problem in the rack.
