Hello,

Ages ago I bought a lighter flywheel for my Rover K-series and finally have time to fit it.

My question is how does one remove a flywheel, assume it has a big bolt holding it onto the engine / crankshaft. Is that it or do I need any special pulling tools ?

The K has six bolts holding the flywheel onto the crank, no special tools needed for removal. Ensure you tighten the bolts back up to the correct torque figure when refitting the flywheel however.

Yes it should be easy to remove. Also make sure that all mounting surfaces are immaculately clean to avoid vibration issues.

Loctite on the bolts might be an idea too, it's recommended on the Peugeot TU engines, no idea about the Rover K though.

It might be worth looking at getting new flywheel bolts. They won't cost much but sometimes they come with a special kind of loctite on as standard. I am not sure if this is true for K-series engines though.

I'm sure they would have come with the flywheel? Cover the new fly wheel in brake cleaner and get all the protective grease off, torque it correctly, easy peasy smile

Was a pretty easy job as suggested. New wheel attached, locktite on threads and correctly torqued. Gearbox is now back on the car, just need to re-fit suspension and set torques etc then jobs a good un
