Its a narrow angle V engine much like the VR6, just minus a cylinder. The VR engines differ from "traditional" V engines as all 5/6 cylinders share the same head.

as with the VR6 not as good as a V6 and the VR5 isn't as good as a striaght 5 ( other than its shorter)

awaiting comments from all the VR engined owners / fans out there

It's mainly a packaging exercise. It's not a real V engine to me, as it only has the 1 cylinder head. It's more of an offset 5 rather than a V5.

Agreed

I know of several owners with engines in the 60-80K milage range which are down about 20Bhp from stock purely down to engine wear.

Its a gimmick and not a good one.

If you whip the head off:

AFAIK its the worst of both worlds between a straight 5 and a v-6, but with better packaging.
