RAther than pay £60 or so I'm going to do the oil change on my 02 Passat myself. Is there anything which is particulary awkward about this job? special tools, random things to undo etc?

On my MK4 Golf the undertray fixings on a 6 year old car were pretty much knackered, have a look at them, undo them and then do them up again, if they feel pretty poor or weak then get replacements before you start the job, they are cheap.

Take it to one of the tyre/exhaust centers offering while you wait oil changes, £20 odd quid all in, far less you can probably buy the oil & filter etc without any trade discount, they dispose of the oil which saves a trip to the dump & a lot less hassle!!

I normally would do but I've never been able to find anything less than £50 for the VW and as I get it from Halfords for trade price I may as well.

FYI Millers to a decently priced PD specific engine oil if Halfords still looks pricey.
