Afternoon all smile

I have an 06 model VW Polo with the PD 1.9 TDI 100bhp engine. I've seen the same engine rated at 130bhp and (I think) 80bhp in standard forms. Is there a significant difference between these engines, or is it just an ECU difference? Could a 100bhp engine be "converted" to a "factory" 130bhp or is there a fundemental difference eg stronger pistons/different cams etc?

Also, is there a way to get better fuel economy through ECU re-programming, and if so how much cost wise and what improvements are possible? I only use this car for commuting, its currently returning a genuine 50mpg+ average.

Thanks in advance for any info!

There are 110 115 130 and 150 varients IIRC, the differences are more than just maps, different cams etc, and Im sure plenty of other things too.

A remap will see you decent gains though

I once had a Golf GT TDi 115hp variant from new - midway thru the 4yr tenure I fitted a "Tuningbox" that took it to 150hp.

Fantastic bit of kit, my 150hp version drove so much better than the VAG official 150hp engine - faster pickup, better low end torque and the economy went up by a healthy amount versus stock. So yes, in my experience, economy can be improved upon, but of course, depends on the map...
