Hi all,

Other half's Punto has what I beleive to be a problem with the fuel tank. As I understand it, most (all?) fuel tanks have a breather hose which allows for expansion and contraction due to ambient temperature. When the cap is taken off of the fuel tank at the pump, a whooshing noise is heard although I am unsure as to whether this is sucking or blowing (phnaaar).

Does anyone know if this car (Fiat Punto Mk1) has a breather hose, how easy it is to free if it blocked, or if this noise is normal. I do not want to blow or crumple the tank, or restrict fuel to the engine.

Haynes manual and google do not seem to throw up any useful info although that could just be me being a 'tard.

Thanks in advance

Max

Cars haven't had fuel tank atmospheric breathers for years due to emission laws (and this applies to your Punto).

The fumes from the tank are purged through the evap system and fed into the engine induction tract to save polluting the atmosphere.

There will generaly be a slight vacuum in the tank but a slight pressure can exist at times.

OK thanks, I think I will just ignore it for now. The performance of the car has always been woeful so I don't think it is making any difference to that. Hopefully we will ditch the punto soon and get something/anything else

Thanks again!
