1997 1.3 mpi mini, 13,000 miles. After maybe 10 / 20 minutes or 1 hour of driving there is suddenly no power / revs and the engine cuts out. Happens randomly, traditionly when in the fast lane of the M1. Turning the engine on again & everything is fine. Whats that all about! I've no idea - anyone had this before?

A friend had an e type with a similar problem. Turned out the a ign coil intended for a ballast resistor ign system had been fitted and when supplied with constant 12v it was overheating. Worth checking.

Might wanna ask this in the Classic mini forum, not personally familiar with MPi's but i'm sure someone on there will be.

Carb icing up, missing/broken heat tube from exhaust?

Ice forms then melts when the heat from the exhaust gets to it, can be a fun thing to track down.

Or blocked fuel cap, when it happens open the petrol cap and see if there is a vacuum.

Good Luck!

I'd vote for a faulty ignition module.

Thanks for all thoughts. There is always a "hiss" of a vacuum when I open the fuel cap.
