rovr v8 - 4.6 crank into a 3.5 block
Discussion
toyed with somthing similar a while ago, I do like a revvy engine, destroke the 4.0 crank with a 94mm block, dosent matter if its a X bolted block or 3.9 block, put the right bits in the engine and I dont see a problem with 8k rev limit, I would think a x bolt would help with the dreaded cap walk, I wonder what it would perform like??
I think the Austrailians made such an engine for a holden many many years ago.
If I remember rightly (havn't got my old rover tuning manual to hand) they also found some lotus 4V heads with overheads cams that happened to fit perfectly on the old rover block.
It was a rather tall engine though

Getting enough air in there for 8k would be the trick....
Nice idea tho it would sound pretty special at those rev's
This one did http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDI3UxLxoTg its about 10% in to this video(red oxide MK1 Cortina)i think the motor only went to 4.6 development and revved to 8k+ if memory serves(sounds like it too) Nice idea tho it would sound pretty special at those rev's
