Vintage towing strain?
Discussion
My weekend fun car is an 1925 4 seat open tourer, its fitted with its original 1250cc OHV 4 cylinder engine which is in good to very good running condition. Its no ball of fire to drive with its 3 speed gearbox but is reliable. My question is that I would like to tow my 1934 vintage caravan with this car, the caravan wieghs in at 630kg which is around two thirds weight of the car. I had a test towing of a similer weight car to see how my car would cope and it did reasonble well as could be expected. My area is Suffolk/ Norfolk so not to challinging so far as hills are concerned. Am I really asking to much of the car tho and would the occasional towing be likely to cause mechanical damage?

It's not the lack of power i'd be worried about, it's the lack of braking power.
Interesting issue, my car has rear wheel brakes only but at least work 100% and lock the wheels. The caravan has brakes and I will be driving at only 30mph at best, less in town I suppose. But right now I'm thinking about changing cars maybe.Gassing Station | Engines & Drivetrain | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
