After reading Dave Bakers useful guide to compression testing, I thought I'd give it a go on my RV8. The numbers look fine, but afterwards I wondered if I have somehow ended up with figures that are not truly representative. I did the test with the air filter and trunking disconnected from the plenum, because it gave much better access the N/S bank. There is no AFM, and the filter is a K&N, so I guess there would not have been too much of a restriction had I left it connected anyway, but is this likely to have skewed the results in any way? I was getting maximum readings after 4 compressions, in a range of 195 - 210 p.s.i.

As long as the throttle is open nothing else in the induction system can possibly be a restriction at just cranking speed. There simply isn't enough airflow taking place. Let's put it this way, if you had a plenum or airfilter or TB that restricted things in any way at 300 rpm you'd be in deep s**t by the time you got to 6,000 rpm.
