Hiya,

I'm now the proud owner of a Peugeot 206, and I'd like some tips on how help my engine run better. I've bought the Redex formula to add to the petrol and I'll use that today as my fuel's running low and have to top up. I need to clear any gunk and crap at the bottom of the engine - would Redex do this (sorry for my naiivety) - as the car has been stationary for a while - parked outside my house for about 2 months and there's bound to be some crap sitting at the bottom. What else would I be able to use to just generally clean up the engine and/or make the car run smoother?

Thanks smile

I would do a quick oil and filter change, new plugs, new fuel filter. Wouldn't worry about redex to be honest. This is all assuming its a petrol...

As above, then drive around locally for a while to make sure its running ok. Then go for a nice long relatively high rev drive up and down a motorway. Possibly treat the car to some good petrol/derv

I'll give it an oil change in a week or so, and I'll change the spark plugs and fuel filter. I'm gonna use up whatever's left of the Redex as tbh it's not doing much to the performance, and yeah it's a petrol. It needs a complete service when I get the money to - I'm paying off the car over the next few months so when that's paid off I'll take it in for a service smile

Thanks smile

Honestly, if you are in any way interesting in throwing spanners around, you can do it yourself with no real problems.

Take the £120+ that any garage would charge you for a service, and buy yourself a 5 litre bottle of the correct grade oil, set of spark plugs, fuel filter and oil filter. That lot will come to about £55-60, and you can spend a few pounds getting a few tools that you might need.

At the moment, my local halfords are doing a deal on some oils where if you buy a bottle, you get a set of screwdrivers with it. People knock them, but halfords do make some pretty good stuff. Almost all of my tools come from there, and put up with a lot of abuse. This might be a nationwide offer so have a look!

The sense of satisfaction after having completed your first service will be worth it! You will then have the tools for next time, and you can start to really save yourself a few quid!!

Honestly, if you have any questions, just ask on here and I will be happy to help, as I am sure others would be.

PS forgot to mention - buy a haynes manual (amazon will be dirt cheap for a second hand one for your car)

Let us know how you get on

..never ... repeat Never use Redex, or any other rubbish additive. It will leave deposits behind.

... if you really want to give it a clean out, use a 50/50 mix of your normal fresh fuel with some 98RON 'optimax'.

& as previously posted, a service will do wonders. Keep an eye on that coil pack..
