Renault Clio 172 gearbox problem

Hi, has anyone had a problem with their gearbox? I'm on my second Renault-supplied one and it's done 20k and gone.
I don't absolutely cane it but drive it like it should. Disapointing. It started when the speedo stopped working intermitently, though not sure if it's related. I then found when coming down from 4th to 3rd it was a bit "notchy". Sometimes I felt a really raw grinding sound when first using the car in the morning which went after a couple of hundred yards. The day it broke, the gears didn't feel quite when selecting.
Any ideas???
