Will an LS engine fit most places that a Rover V8 would?

I've got a customer with a Westfield Seight, and we are looking at possibilites for a different engine. If it turns out that an LS could not be accommodated I would still like to know if there is any knowledge out there on whereabouts an LS is bigger than an RV8 in case it might be an option on another RV8 equipped car

Thanks in anticipation

Mike's site has soe info.

But they are virtually the same size externally. Maybe slightly different shape, and bigger bellhousing depending on box used. But still a very compact engine

This is a RRC (& he is thinking about doing something involving a supercharger), but have a look at this fitted instead of a RV8.

I have no idea what the respective dimensions are.

Just out of intrest, how come the LS wouldn't fit into the Westy chassis?

Actually, I didn't say it wouldn't fit, I was asking IF it turned out it wouldn't fit smile

The Westfield project will depend on factors outside my control (like for instance whether the owner feels it's worth the investment) but I've become independantly interested in this now, and am planning to build a car on spec featuring the LS engine and a suitable drivetrain. Always easier to build from scratch.

I measured an installed LS engine from above against my V8 Rush chassis and it initially looks possible.

Tight spots with the RV8 to check against the LS engine are going to be:-

- the outer width of the cylinder heads at the front, where the chassis is narrower. This looked OK on the Rush chassis, but couldn't check the other two tight spots...
- around the RV8 bell housing is very tight as standard (to make room for your feet), if its anything like the Rush chassis. Both width-ways and vertically.
- starter motor may also be tight if the fly wheel diameter is bigger than an RV8.

The rest is all quite spacious really. You should be able to see where I mean if you take a look at the installed RV8.

Only one way to know for sure, try it. And keep us posted of any results!

Well if Barry Ashcroft managed to get a SBC to fit:
http://www.chevroletwestfield.co.uk/gallery/v/fran...
He did have to chop the chassis about to get the bellhousing to fit far enough back and strengthened the rear end around the diff. I'm pretty sure you could get an LS to fit. Problems I can see are going to be:
  • water pump connection near the steering column.
  • where is the oil take-off/feed vs chassis members?
  • getting a sump that fits between lower chassis members and is far enough from the ground!
  • exhaust headers - I think the head will be far enough from the chassis but it may be a challenge getting a bend in there if the ports are significantly higher/lower than the Rover ports.
I did hear a rumour that someone was going to try it - it must be your customer.
