On the serpentine Rover V8, behind the front camchain cover is the cam and next to the cam wheel and behind the retaining plate are two holes, one on either side.

These go into the tappet oil ways.

Q. Should these have bungs in these to resist the oil flow .. I'm thinking .. Yes.

How does the cam chain and pulley get their oil flow if these holes are blocked - I'm presuming that a small enough quantity of oil gets out from behind the cam retaining plate.

Also - does anyone know where I can buy an alloy bung for the dizzy hole in the serp intermadiate cover. I've seen them for sale and a few people on here have them but I cannot for the life of me remember where... Thanks.

Yes those oil ways should be plugged or you'll get no pressure. As far as I know you are correct the oil for the cam chain comes from the front cam bearing. It doesn't look like much will come out but without a dissy you won't need as much. You could always drill extra holes in to the valley area which is a common modification - oil draining back from the heads can then 'dribble' though to the cam chain area.

Edit: bugger beaten to it!
