I have a piece of machinery (not cars) that hasn't been greased for 10 years!

Is there any way of clearing out any old grease via the grease nipples, without taking the whole thing apart? Or have I got to try and dismantle the bearing and douse it in petrol or something before I put fresh grease in?

Cheers

The only sensible way is to dismantle it. but you could pump it full of grease and see what happens.

If the grease is so old it's gone solid you really need to take it apart

Pumped it full of grease - after spending half an hour wrestling with the spring on a new grease gun - and it seemed to work OK... It is a 4'6" mower and I only realised it needed greasing when I decided to give it a service for the first time ever! I did take the grease nipples off and give them a good clean first.

I've never owned a grease gun before as I thought all bearings had been sealed for life for decades, but apparently not!

PS. Forgot to say thanks for replying thumbup
