Jeep Cherokee Oil change
Discussion
This is real belt n braces stuff but I thought i'd throw it into the pot.
I'm currently bumbling around in a 1996 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 Petrol. Lovely ol hector.
Anyway, i'm in the process of doing some much needed servicing and it's been a while since i've worked on such a 'traditional' engine.
Oil Change - The odd lifter gets a little tappy after a good run and, though with modern engines I wouldn't bother, was tempted to do a double oil change. First with a good diesel oil for a thousand miles or two then back to conventional semi-synthetic and back to normal service schedule.
Any feelings on this folks? The engine seems in good health otherwise. 115k miles. No real oil usage etc.
What are your thoughts?
Many thanks,
Nik

Sounds pretty smart. Use the lightest recommended oil. You ought to consider more regular oil changing anyway - it will really help extend engine life.
Many thanks Gavin,I've just recently acquired the Jeep so i'm catching up on a bit of necessary maintenance but with an old brute like this I was thinking of not going longer than 6 months (around 3k miles i'd guess) between changes.
Does that sound about fair?
