Cylinder head on my kit car went last weekend annd it seems to be beyond repair. It's a Ford Sierra 1.8 CVH engine and apparantly Ford no longer list it as a spare part. Anyone know where I can get a good one quickly please?

Alternative is I change the engine for a 2 litre twin cam out of another Sierra but I don't really want to start messing about with engine mounts and ECU's and stuff since due to me working abroad, I've got to pay a garage to do the work. So ideally it's a new head for the 1.8 CVH. Anyone any ideas please?

i dont know of anywhere that you will be able to get a reconditioned head as theyre probably really hard to find, but it could be worth trying a scrappy or breakers yard for a cylinder head ?

or you could looking on somewhere like ebay for a car being broke for spares or even buy a cheap parts car ?

both of those options are a bit more of a risk over buying a reconditioned head, but it will be a lot cheaper and easier to find

As above. Or perhaps contact the likes of Burton ?

I'd imagine new if you could find one would cost a fortune. Cheapest might be to find a complete car and buy it.

Thanks chaps and yes you're right, hen's teeth seems to be a good phrase. E-mailed half a dozen specialists on Friday and not one's come back.

So I'm now leaning towards replacing the whole engine. Been offered a rusty Sierra with a 2.0 DOHC so thinking of solving the problem that way.

But thanks for your ideas chaps.

There must be someone somewhere that's bought Ford's old stock of old CVH heads for 2 shillings and sixpence halfpenny and would love to offload one for a fiver. But as with all these things, it's finding them that's the problem.

Thanks Steve, yes he's got one off a scrapped car sitting there in his yard. £25 complete sold as is. In Barrow in Furness so it's going to cost me more to have it delivered than to buy it, but nevertheless it's progress. Thanks for the tip.

Surely some local breakers somewhere would have complete cars ?

As for people having heads. Why would anyone want to buy a load of them ? lol

Ferriday engineering did lots of CVH heads and might have some kicking around. Not sure on the difference between them and the 1600cc type.................if there is any.........

Try LocostBuilders I'm sure there are loads of perfectly serviceable 1.8 CVH engines on there.
If I was to replace a 1.8cvh it would not be with the DOHC Sierra engine but at the least a Zetec 1.8 or 2.0

Northampton.

I asked because Barrow in Furness is too fatr (for anyone, understandably), just trying to work out if anyone I might know would be closer.
