Rover LT77 gear sekection issues

Hi guys, basically wondering how you set up the thingy on the back of the remote on the lt77 box.
The thing I mean is where the stick goes in there is a giant r clip with 2 adjustable bolts that you can wind up or down and lock in place with the lock nuts.
The way it was set up made me mix up 1st and reverse and then I couldnt get 4th at all, so I wound them the other way and now reverse is extremely hard to get, but I can get 4th easily, and it jumps out of 1st, 3rd and 5th !

I thought I best ask on here before I spend more hours fiddling, thanks guys and galls!

Sounds more serious than just the aligning bolts. they should be set so you are in neutral and dont have to move the lever either way (left or right) to select 3rd or 4th, should be just straight forward and straight back.
