Im looking to replace my plugs with cheaper ones. The engine is a high BHP turbo twin plug at about 7.3:1 CR.

The old plugs were NGK R7436-10, 5/8", 14mm thread, small body.

Anyone know of a compatible coper/cheaper alternative?

Why would you own a high performance car then scrimp on its maintenance?

Forced induction motors don't need exotic plugs. Copper is often better. Plus I need 12. On my last motor I ran a $2.5 copper plug on the recommendation from a tech at NGK. They performed well. However I have a new engine with different plug sizes. The plug i'm replacing cost £25 per plug, so worth doing a bit of research...

That's a bit of a general statement.

In theory no engine needs them. Assuming the ignition system is powerful enough.

But a lot will depend on the application, as to what is the best option. Although cheapy coppers work for me lol

If you cant find what you need in a catalogue, why not email NGK and ask them ?

Although if you can get a similar fitment, in same heat range but copper, I'd just try them.

I spent ages looking at this last time and rang NGK in the US. A woman answered the phone and I asked to "speak to someone who knew what they were talking about..." Big mistake, this woman knew just about everything there is to know and was passionate about it too. I learnt a lot that day.... She was one of their chief tech bods, and made it very clear that exotics are a complete waste of time on FI engines. She then listed numerous US race teams that they supply and how many of them used their cheap copper plugs on FI motors, despite their sponsorship claiming otherwise....

At the end of the day, a couple of hundred quid on plugs is a drop in ocean on this engine. But, i'm not going to waste money for the sake of a bit of googling... And yes I know how to spec an ignition system.

So what plugs did NGK suggest then ?

Oddly, when I emailed their tech people in the US, they reccomended the iridium that Charlie/Vixpy mentioned ( LSx platform )

I did use them for a while....but IMO it really is not worth the expense.

Last plugs I tried where cheapy RS Turbo BCR8ES or something. last change I opted for a slightly hotter "7" heat range. Although couldnt get them locally when I wanted, so fitted some equivalent cheapy Denso's instead.

Although I do prefer NGK
