I'mm sure many folks have though about this so:-
Q 1.
Thinking about going the Duratech route for my 7, anyone already been there, done it and have an idea of the costs involved, also some alternative suppliers for the various bits & parts.
Initially I'd want a Standard motor with TB's and ECU, to fit onto my TranX SC 5 speed box.
Many questions like which Bellhousing/Flywheel/clutch/sump/alternator you used and why?

Q.2
Anyone know of a supplier of New 2litre or 2.3 litre Duratecs for sensible moneythumbup

Minister Power is the place to go (though not sure what you'd class as "sensible money" ).

There is a place offering tuned Duratecs that regularly advertises in PPC but I can't remember their name off the top of my head.

Mate bought one from Raceline in a crate, fitted jenveys, steel flywheel, sump and water rail. Put in a BGH gearbox, emerald ecu and added up to 6k for the lot. Lot of money and can be done cheaper, but was all brand new. this included mapping and alternator, starter etc etc...........

I know there are plenty of High end/EXPENSIVE Duratec 'Fitter/Tuners' like Minister and Raceline, but that's not what this post was about:-
I'd like to fit a Standard Duratec not a Tuned one, for sensible, not silly money, anyone done it for sensible money?
eg. my Standard SIlvertop Zetec installation cost ~ £1700 B4 the rolling road session at Emerald, and that included buying all the special bits and the engine. It could have been done for less had if I had used a Megasquirt ECU instead of the Emerald, and cut and shut the sump myself instead of buying a Retro Ford Sump. >.
What does the Duratec installation cost in comparison - anyone costed it out?
In the past I've fitted injected DOHC and Zetecs into cars designed for pinto's and X Flows, so a Duratec installation is my obvious next project
So has anyone:-
Cut and shut the sump - do you know a supplier of a Duratec C&S sump for RWD installation?
Machined a standard flywheel to make it more suited to a lightweight 7?
What clutch did you use for a RWD installation? the pinto clutch would be the obvious candidate provided the flywheel was machined to suit [easy with a Lathe]
Anyone know of a supplier of a basic 4-1 Duratec EX Man'f for a 7.
Any other RWD problems when fitting a Duratec - such as alternator or starter motor - do you need a waterail?

You asked for a price of a new engine and now asked about a budget? I replied with a budget. The installation was all done by my mate. The only technical part was the mapping. The engine was a standard 2 ltr mondeo engine. Was crated at the time at £1600. It gave 197 bhp on Emeralds rollers and was one of the first that Dave had mapped and was amazed at the power it gave. Although the engine was standard, it had new big end bolts and decent fasteners on the new steel flywheel.
Head down the scrappers and get a lump, but thats not what you asked.
Mate is now building a new westie with a Zetec Blacktop, which he got brand new for £600, so that might give an idea on a Duratec cost, although there are more floating around now. Remember that a crated engine also included the injectors and rail etc, which other engines may not include any of that......................

Also remember the Duratec is from Mazda and no standard ford bellhousing will fit, so factor that into your costs too................

197 sounds ample for me for a standard 2L.
At £230 the bellhousing is a fair price IMO - it's the Ex Manf, Sump, and waterrail which are OTT on price.
what I need now is a supplier of new engines at a fair pricebiggrin
any ideas?
