Renault Laguna DCi Remaps

Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen,
Just wondering if I can source the fount of knowledge here on PH once more.
I'm not by any means in the know about engine mapping but when one of my amicable bosses said that their Renault was up the creek without a paddle because of the ECU my intrest was piqued.
He stated that the ECU can only be mapped for a 2002 Renault Megane Sceneic 1.9 DCi by a Renault outlet.
I said why doesn't he get an aftermarket ECU and get it mapped as it should cost a lot less than the £600-1200 he's been quoted by the renault dealer, he said he can't because his Mrs checked on the internet...
Is that really the case? a 2002 Renault ECU that hasn't been cracked yet? Does anyone know any reputable dealers in the Wilts/Oxfordshire area who might be able to help?
