I have a 2001 996 C4 with a humming noise from the front diff. whilst travelling at speed. The noise is never constant and the hum will change volume, pitch and speed related position.
I presume the noise is one of the diff. bearings.
Does anyone have a experience or a guide to removing the front diff. ( order of parts removal..short cuts etc. )

Any help greatfully received.
Thanks.

The noise is an 'inboard' cental sound.
I have run the wheels independently and found no fault with the outer bearings.
The noise is no worse on acceleration or deceleration at speed , suggesting it is a bearing rather than the diff. itself.

Never presume anything, it will generally cost you more in the long run. Has it been looked at by a porsche specialist?
