I'm new to the world of ecu mods, so am unsure of which is best. I'm looking to get my silly little Daihatsu re-mapped after I've changed the turbo, so was wondering what would be best.
Lets assume the ecu is not re-programmable so could anyone tell me the pro's and cons of each of the others and possibly suggest some places to get it done, with 4wd rolling road. I live near Lincoln, so ideally not a million miles away

ECU upgrade - emerald/AMD or ... I assume this is the best option, but expensive?
Piggyback system - Greddy emanage, Dastak ... I'm really unsure about these.
Chip tuning - I know very little about this, but it seems to be the cheapest solution ... Any thoughts on this?

Thx

Which Daihatsu is it?

I owned a string of charade turbos over the course of 6 years, my last having over 160hp due to cams, hybrid, and an ECU so I know a little about Daihatsu tuning wink

No stock Daihatsu ECUs are chippable by the layman or any company in the UK, so realistically that leaves you the piggy back and standalone options.

Detail out all your mods for me and I'll be able to give you a better idea of which one will suit your needs smile

Cheers Marf ... so I'm left with the option I didn't want or the expensive one ... sounds about right.

The car I will be looking to have the work done on is a Daihatsu Cuore Avanazato, 4cyl, 659cc turbo.
Mods:
The rev limit has been raised to 10k.
Large K&N filter replacing airbox.
De-cat, 2" exhaust (overkill I know)
Turbo changed RHF3 -> RHF4 or RHF3/4 hybrid (not done yet, attempting next week, I have 2x RHF'3s and 2x RHF4's to play with)
Intercooler changed from top - front mount (not done yet, hopefully next week)

Any thoughts on an Apexi SAFC?

Yes, they're toilet, don't use one. Thanks to the way they work you cannot adjust fuelling without it altering the ignition timing by an unknown amount.

Sounds good smile

How has the rev limit been raised? Is it running a Hockley or DRS ECU already?

An E-Manage should suffice for your mods. I would recommend using Ed from Fusion Motorsport for fitting and mapping. He installed the standalone I had on my Charade and has worked on loads of others.

Bear in mind that depending on how much boost/power you want to run, you may also need to beef up the injectors.

Cheers Marf, its a Hockly ecu in one of his rally cars wink

Any idea what sort of cost I'd be looking it for the emanage, installation and setup?
edit: just checked fusion website and £325 for fitting and setup + emanage, so £700ish.

For that sort of money wouldn't I be as well of going the extra for a standalone Emerald or whatever?

Yeah sounds about right, I'm not sure if that includes dyno time or not. Ed's a good guy, give him a bell and he can go over it with you. Tell him Sam/Marf sent you smile

As to whether it'd be worth going full standalone given the £700 cost for the E-Manage, you'll probably pay £700 for the a standalone by itself, then you have fitting and mapping on top of that. Wiring in a standalone is far more involved than the E-manage, as is mapping.

Thx for the advice Marf, one last question. I don't suppose if you know if fusions rolling road is 4wd or not?

Fusion use Surrey Rolling Road as they are on the same industrial estate, and their dyno is 4WD. smile
