The upper tube from radiator to engine on my e39 528 (1998) has developed two small splits - in the likelihood that the part will not be in stock and will take a day or so to source any suggestions how I can put a temporary seal on the rubber pipe.

Self amalgamating PTFE tape, and lots of it.
Solvent clean and dry the surface or it will not seal.

Cut the splits out & bodge some pipe in its place. Alternatively halfwits do a generic flexi type hose for a few quid

you may be able to grab a roll of self amalgamating tape from Maplin, if there is one nearby....

job done. b&q self sealing worked well enough to tell me its the old thermostat / knackered water pump on the e39 that is source of problems.

so time to get that done then.

ah well a few hundred down and that's before I've to pay the 400 road tax for the roadster and then put the e39 and the merc through MOTs at end of month....and I'm skint after coming back from summer holiday.
