Hi folks, looking for some advice from anyone who uses the above.

Have PCMSCAN at the moment and it appears to be doing what i need from the OBD2 scan software but does anyone use any other programs they would recommend?

Tested on the Mr2 and can read codes fine but no dash readings, probably be to do with the 2nd ECU in play. Tested on the CRV and again reads codes fine but the dash readings are all over the place.

I've only used hand held scanners before and although they are fine i'm looking for something a bit more in depth.

Any experienced advice you could throw my way would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

That's probably about as far as it will go.
There is only limited amounts of info available to OBD2, which is the codes, 4 channels of live data, and sometimes the freeze frame data, which is a bit like a timestamp when a fault code comes up.

PCMSCAN is recommended then?

Yea, it's the best i've seen, although there might be better out there.

It's obviously limited with what Obd2 can do, but it makes the best of it, with stuff like a dyno chart and datalogging when they work.

Indeed, that's the bug bear, as long as it works.

It's primarily for data logging and the dyno for the Mr2 but as long as it reads codes from most other cars then it will do me fine.

Cheers for your input chief.

Some extra help if i may? I have the issue as follows, i am trying to use the OBD2 plug on my Mr2 roadster (1zz-fe) to work with my different engine (1MZ-FE)

1zz fe appears to be ISO 9141-2 protocol.

Uses pin 5 Ground, 7 data, 15 data and 16 Power.

1MZFE appears to be SAE J1850 VPW protocol.

Uses pin 2 data, 5 ground and 16 power.

Therefore i would be correct in assuming that the signal wire would have to be connected to Pin 2 for the J1850 protocol to be used?

Simply connecting the signal wire to pin 7 or 15, would try to make the scanner read the 1MZFE ECU in the original 9141-2 protocol and not work, is that correct?

The ELM327s will cover all the protocols, iso, vpw, pwm, and can.

I think you might need to run a new wire from the ECU to the plug, pin 2, and it should work.
You might need to disconnect the original wires incase they are detected by the ELM and the wrong protocol is selected.

You might need to check up the wiring at the ecu side, and see where the data line is

No that's great.

I have located the pin 7 and 15 wires, they are both disconnected from the old ECU.

I have the new data wire from the new ECU, i simply need to send that signal to pin 2 now.

Thanks, confirms what i thought was needed.

Yep, VPW just uses those 3 wires (sometimes an extra ground, but that's about it)
