Fitting an MT75 rear wheel drive gearbox to 1.8td escort
Discussion
I want to fit an MT75 gearbox from a sierra 2litre dohc rear wheel drive to a 1.8td escort engine.
Does anyone know if this can or cant be done? I fitted the box on the back of the engine and the bolt holes line up,input shaft looks ok but i dont know which flywheel and clutch to use?
I thought of using the P100 pick up flywheel and clutch but dont know if it will fit or what starter to use with the box.
If anyone could help me at all with info would be great

Yes it can be done as all Ford bellhousings have the same bolt on pattern as for the clutch id be looking towards a sierra clutch as they did fit the 1800cc td in them from the factory.
Do bear in mind a spigot bearing will need fitting to the crank for rwd applications, im not sure if there is a provision for fitting one in the crank already but if it doesnt it shoud be something that can be machined.

Thanks for you reply,Ive already thought about the spigot bearing but not took the fly wheel off to check the back of the crank yet. The p100 pick up and the sierra 1.8td was fitted with a type 9,i need to no more about what clutch, flywheel and starter to use? Do you recon all the bits from the sierra diesel will all fit together with the box and sort my problem?
I would use a type 9 but i need to make a remote linkage to hook up to gear linkage on the vehicle as the gearlever is about a meter away from the gearbox. On the mt75 box the gearlever is fitted on the back of the box with a flat type rod that i can modify to my exsisting linkage. The type 9 lever fits directly into the box so wont really work as there isnt much room from the floor pan to attach any thing to it.

Best bet with the clutch is hunt down a Luk clutch catalouge as they list the dimiensions & splines as well as individual parts no's you should be able to find a clutch to fit that wasy
Just to note a lot of fords flywheels are also very similar so thet is also an option if your having trouble.
