Turbo troubles
Discussion
My Skoda 1.9tdi has covered 128,000 miles and runs just fine EXCEPT : if I run on dual or motorways at an sustained 60/70 mph after 40 miles or so the turbo stops working with resulting power loss. If I park up and let the engine cool for an few hours everything returns to normal running until I repeat the process. Local runs and stop start driving are also just fine, its simply longer hard working engine that causes the turbo to stop working? Advise and comment welcomed.
If there are no other signs (for example no smoke or noise) from the turbo, that would suggest that the wastegate system is "jamming" open when it is fully heat soaked. Not sure if you car has the "electronic" systems (is it a VGT turbo??) or the vaccuum version??
(either should have stored an "under target boost pressure" or "under target MAF" fault in the engine ecu)
Probably in either case means a new turbo (espec. if it's VGT)

does sound like the spring in the vacuum capsule is failing to pull the vanes back into the "closed" position. You might be able to get a hand / fingers into the actuator rod and see if it's feels like it's binding etc?? Or you might be able to mark it up with a paint pen / permanent marker and see if it is stuck out when you have "no boost" ???
Thanks again, lost boost when driving along M25 other day, pulling fine with boost and then power gave two mild 'fluffs'in quick succession and then no boost.
I have been told of an product that cleans out turbo called INNOTEC turbo cleaner anyone here tried it or is it another wonder product (wonder why you purchased it).

It looks more to me like an EGR issue. Your EGR valve opens at part load and stays stuck for whatever reason. When you want full power, it doesn't close, feeding your cylinder with exhaust gas instead of fresh air.
When cooling down, this valves operates again perfectly and your car recovers power.
Check this out as well.

Thanks for input, I have spent number of hours on internet including Briskoda. Seems my turbo problem is quite common in the VAG community. Apparently many turbo's seem to suffer the problem through carbon deposits building up in the unit and eventually the bits and bobs (very technical) seize when the thing gets very hot. Upon cooling normal service resumes, hence my further reading suggests using the Turbo Clean from INNOTEC. I would like to hear from anyone who has used the product although Briskoda chaps seem OK with it.When cooling down, this valves operates again perfectly and your car recovers power.

I expect I will give it an go before the driving shaft on the unit gives up.
