I had installed an LED as a batty / ignition light, this basically stopped the alternator from charging the battery, I assume because it's a diode it creates a problem with the regulator. / exciter circuit
My ignition light has not worked long before I installed the LED and the lamp is definitely OK, the alternator is fine and only a couple of months old. The wiring is definitely ok from ignition light to the alternator as when you plug / unplug the light it stops / starts the alternator charging.

Anyone any ideas?

An LED won't pass enough current to kick the charge into life.

Try wiring a 47 ohm 5 watt resistor in parallel with the light. (Put it somewhere it can get hot without cooking anything.)

Well strange things happen.
I thought I would reconnect the original lamp to the system instead of a resistor and then put the LED on it as well to see if that helped at all. The original light does not come on but the LED works perfectly. Gobsmacked but happy.
Nobles have very strange wiring indeed.
Thanks for the help.
