Hello all,
Have recently purchased a peugeot phase 2 peugeot 306 D-turbo as a winter hack as I am dry storing my E36 328i. I purchased the 1.9 td engined model as I make the assumption that the older mechanical engine shall be more reliable and easier to extract extra performance from. So far it certainly has been reliable and is great a cruising on the motor-way. How ever I am missing the safe overtaking abilities of the BMW and would like to get that back in the way of many diesel torques. So the question is how does one go about tuning the engine, what are safe power levels, where is the point in tuning that best balances performance and economy and what effect would the tuning have on service intervals? All information would be greatly appreciated as would web links to further information/guides etc...

Thank you for your time.

Tuning box would be the cheapest (if a little crude) way of adding some pep - you should be able to find a reputable one via ebay for little outlay given the age of the car. Forget the cheap resistor in a box for £20. Look for Tunit or similar.

Before doing anything though i'd make sure all is as it should be engine wise, filters (incl fuel filter), etc etc. If there's any form of EGR valve i'd also check and change that.

No really you won't.

OP all you can really do with the XUD9 is bugger about with the fueling on the pump. Google 306 dturbo stage 1 and watch the video.

There is a lot of info on tuning the XUD9 online, visit www.pug306.net, plenty of helpful people on that site who'd offer advice, or at least there were when I used to use it.
