Driving to work, awful sound from under the car, thought I had driven over something. Turns out it was my undertray. Is this really important and should I be going back to the garage that serviced the car the day before, not a main dealer....friend. Will it cause rust, reduce performance/econamy. Havn't noticed any difference eg noise, bonnet lift. Is it that important.
The car is a Pug 607 HDi
Thanks for any advice.

It is there to protect people outside the car from the sound of your diesel engine! :P
Also may help aerodynamics for fuel economy and cooling performance and top speed.
Likelyhood of problem leaving it off: Very low.

It shouldn't cause any harm, but I would think the fuel economy will be a bit affected. Sounds like it wasn't re-attached properly when it was serviced. I'd have a friendly chat with your friend, see if he can't source a tray from a scrappy and fit it for you.

Without it in this weather it'll expose your power steering pipes (assuming hydraulic ps on your car) and they're expensive to replace once corroded.

It's not going to do any harm just now but I'd pop it back on when you get the first chance. It's. Dead easy to diy although it sounds like you might need to buy a couple of new fasteners at the dealer (they're pennies)

Thanks for the replies. I have spoken with the garage and they said they would locate a replacemaent. I was worried about all the crud from the salted and gritted roads going up into the engine bay.
Cheers
