Hey, I was just having a look at a few small French cars and just wandered if it was possible to throttle body a 1.1?

I know it would not be worth it and very expensive but is it actually possible, what do throttle bodies actually do, and could you do it to any car?

I assume you mean independent throttle bodies as oposed to a standard single one?

I don't personally know about them in detail, but the main benefit is improved throttle response. I think you'd need to alter quite alot more to benefit much from using ITBs on a 1.1, so like you already said, it'd be quite expensive. I think it'd be pretty pointless on a 1.1, but I may be wrong. And yes, you could use ITBs with any engine if you had enough money to do it!

If the standard throttle is a restriction, or the standard plenum chamber causes contamination from one cylinder to the next, then ITBs can help.
On most engines, they wont do much good without other mods (such as cams, headwork to improve breathing), and you'll normally need to modify the ECU map to take advantage of it.

A lot of people seem to think that ITBs = instant power, and as with anything engine related, it aint that simple. Indeed, if you put big ITBs on, you can easily loose power, or concentrate it in a very small rev band, reducing drivability.

Read a good book on tuning before you spend your money.

A more cost effective tuning solution would be to buy a car with a bigger engine.
