Hi all,

Am looking to put together a 4.6 Rover V8 engine for my Chimaera from a Range Rover 4.6 HSE.

Can anyone advise me of the main differences?

Someone mentioned pocketed pistons - does the TVR variant (I believe TVR badged the 4.6 as the 4.5) have pocketed pistons to run the TVR cam?
I'd rather not have to buy 8 pocketed pistons if I can help - would dent my budget a bit. Would much rather spend the money on nice shiny heads!

Ideally it would go something like this

4.6 HSE block, crank & pistons > regrind crank and mains > Top hat Liners fitted with original pistons > fit TVR heads and either MC1/TVR Cam > go faster!! (than my 3.9)

many thanks.

Ryan

I've got pocketed pistons in my 450 (4.6). This is not done in all TVR 4.6's though for unknown reasons. Not having them means you'll be restricted on cam choice (nothing hotter than an MC1).

Other differences are the heads - I think TVR did a fair bit of work to them so these will need sorting out a fair bit. best giving Dom a ring at TVR Power as they actually came up with the 4.6 before it went in the RR.

Hi.

I have a 4.6 with standard flat top pistons.

I run a Real Steel Typhoon cam with slightly bigger then standard valves.

As this set up it runs a little over 270 brake with 305 torques and runs pretty quick, at least as fast as a standard 5.0 on track.

Heads have now been exchanged for stage 4 heads, inlet manifold flowed and the trumpet base opened out, new trumpets and flowed.

All the above sitting on my bench ready for a bit of work this weekend!
