Getrag gearbox disassembly

Hiya all,
I've got a Getrag 240 gearbox originally off an E30 318 that I'd like to take apart, because I like the shiny bits inside. Can't separate the two halves of the casing though
They will come about an inch apart but no further like something inside is holding them.
So far I've taken every bolt, cap, plug etc. I can see off it, taken the big cap thingy from around the input shaft and removed the big circlip by the input shaft bearing. The output shaft flange is gone too, no circlip there that I can see. But it will only come about an inch apart.
I shoved it back and tried to check if it was still in neutral but I can't seem to find neutral any more...
If it comes to it then Mr Angle Grinder will have a word but I'd rather not waste the discs if I don't have to!!
