Mondeo Engine Knocking
Discussion
Hi,
The engine in my Ford Mondeo (2002 1.8 Duratec petrol) is knocking, I have uploaded a video here:

Does it sound like big-end bearing failure, or is it possibly something related with the valve lifters? Someone told me that big-end bearing failure usually has a deeper sound than what I'm experiencing. I bought it like this, so I'm not sure if there were any other symptoms before it started knocking like this.
It has a timing chain, and I'm told they can come loose over time and start to make a knocking noise? However, I doubt that this is the problem in my case. The car has done 110k miles.
There's also a common problem with the inlet manifold with Mondeos of this era, where part of it somehow gets eaten by the engine as described here:

Any ideas?
Thanks

I'm not sure, i'd drop the sump off for a look see. Probably do a compression test before i did that with that noise somewhere between a top end tic and a bottom end toc.
Last car i heard like that was a snapped cambelt victim, engine timed and new belt fitted it did fire but sounded like that, that one turned out to be an oil pump failed which caused the belt to give way as... well the engine didn't seize so i'm not sure why it snapped, but i can guess that it would have been hard on the belt.

Hiya mate, I know its been a while since you posted the topic but how did you get on?? I have same model and the exact same thing just happened to me this morning without much warning. It's also done just shy of 110k miles. Any info would be a bonus before I get the spanners out.
Cheers
