Hi guys,

I have a 52 plate golf v5, which I have left out on the drive over christmas as I work abroad.
Just returned today and have problem with the gearstick movement.
Gears can be selected, but the shift if very stiff with no free lateral movement, it does not return to the central position if released from the left/rightmost position.

Any ideas what could be wrong, and how it could be fixed?

Many thanks

If its anything like my brother in laws tt , then there is a selector arm on the top of the gearbox, that may need a bit of oil to free it up.

If DIY mechanicing is not your thing then try driving it for a few days and see if it frees up on its own. Not very likely but worth a try.

Thanks for the replies, I'm not much of a DIY mechanic by any stretch. I'm happy to give it go though, is the linkage easy to access?
