And can it be repaired ? Or if stuck, I'm sure BMW sell them.

Thanks for the link, unfortunately it's for a petrol and they are not interchangeable.
Regarding rebuilds, I've been told no, as you can't get spares for them? Sounds odd.
A new transfer bow costs £2000 from BMW, and the cars worth about 8500.... So makes no sense to buy a new one!

Thanks

Al

I'd be inlined to take the transfer box apart & see what seized, I bet its a bearing thats failed or two, which possibly might be a very easy fix.

or take it to a specialist. I'm sure something can be done.

Although £2k for peace of mind that it is 100%, is hardly that bad ? You could spend £1k on a second hand unit for it to fail in 2 months time.

It's a gamble people take when buying these expensive new cars when they become available on the second hand market cheap.

All it takes is for one problem, and the car suddenyl becomes much more expensive.

You are right, they are a gamble, to be fair I have the money to fork out 2k but I just don't see the point for a car that's worth a little more, I have had many many happy motoring miles in it, and I can report, no issues, except this one! Ill look further into stripping it. Thanks al

And when you say seized. Do you mean seized into 4wd, or seized vehicle wont move ?

good question, the car is still able to drive, however it would only be safe to drive in a wet field etc, the box has seems to have locked teh differential?

put it this way, if i was in a defender and heard the whel skip whilst turning i would reach down and pull the big lever to get it out of diff lock, no lever in X5!!!

Thanks
