The project car arrives today & the first jobs are a good service & get it ready for the MOT.

I'm wondering if any of these "engine flush" products actua;;y work or are they best left on the shelf at Hellfrauds?

I'd say they work exactly as well as chucking a pint of diesel or paraffin in the sump, but more expensive than either wink But that is pretty much all those nice neat cans contain.

I once ran some diesel through an old Beetle engine, which did a grand mop-out job internally before I stripped it for a rebuild. I would not do that on anything with a hint of precision about it.

I looked into this in some detail with my own car. The consensus apparently is do it from the start or budget for a new engine if you start doing it with an older car. Ultimately the best thing is just change the oil regularly with no flush so says the numerous threads on the matter. Im going with that!

I have been using Forte products for years and it does work. Its only sold to motor trade professionals so you wont find it in Halfords or the like.I could give you lots of examples of how good it is and the "faults" various additives have cured and time (& money)saved.Believe me I have a responsibility to my customers so I would not use it if I thought it useless.

I would be a little carefull if its done a few miles and missed a service or 3
as a flush can loosen sludge and gritty carbon which ends up blocking the strainer in the sump , if it looks ok in the rocker cover but the oil looks like its nasty I would do a oil and filter with some cheap oil run it for 100 miles then change again... if there is a lot of sludge in it and its easy to get the sump of give it a oil change run it around for a few miles, take sump, and rocker/cam cover off clean it out and reasenmble...
