Help - do I need new coil packs?
Discussion
Wondering if anyone with more knowledge than me can assist!
Just in the process of replacing spark plugs on a Boxster S (986). However, in doing so it would appear that a couple of the coil packs are damaged (no issues with the running of the car though prior to me getting involved!).
The only part that is damaged is the rubber ring on the bottom of the coil which has detached on a couple. Link to image at Design 911 below. Is this rubber ring functional and required, i.e. do I need to replace a couple of coils or will the car function fine as is?
Happy to spend the money if required but obviously would prefer not to spend the money if it makes no difference to the functionality!
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Mods - I realise I have double posted this in Engines & Drivetrains and Porsche. Not sure how busy either forum is and need to find the answer with some urgency! If you could leave it to run in both for the next day it would be greatly appreciated.

Any such rubber parts may be absolutely vital for insulation purposes.
But without seeing specifically the damage and how this rubber piece engages on the plug and within it's surroundings. No idea.
If the insulation is sound and the spark cannot escape to it's metal surroundings, then it should be fine.
