Elva Rover V8 exhaust
Discussion
A colleague of mine is building an Elva with a Rover V8 engine, the exhaust system has 4 into 1 custom tubular manifolds for each bank but no link / balance pipe between the sides. There isn't a lot of room to route a balance pipe either due to low ground clearance.
Am I correct in thinking that the engine will run badly without a balance pipe or will this only be a problem at low engine speeds (say below 1500rpm)?

It will be fine, do the two systems met up at all or are both system seperate all the way. The only reason for a balance pipe is to inprove scavenging but the same effect can be achieved by having the two systems met in a common centre box.
Here is a picture of mine before I welded on clamps for the manifolds..

Interested to hear of the Elva being fitted with V8 power ... post said 'building' but assume rebuilding/restoring original car? Type/year etc?
I am aware of a Courier Mk.IV T-Type with V8 power and over the years many Elva sports racers have been fitted with non-original power units. Details of these and lots more will feature in the Elva book due to be published in August. Ground clearance always a problem with the various Courier models even with the 'standard' set-up, so the V8 power an interesting challenge but will sound wonderful!

you can perhaps phone to this Elva owner also with a V8 if not sold?

Thank you Chris ... the Courier V8 you kindly provided the link to is the car I mentioned in my query and is on the official Elva website. This topic may relate to the same car (which I have seen) but I wondered if there were now two V8 powered Couriers. Your previous response appreciated. Rog
