Hello,

I currently have a Chevrolet Lacetti 1.6 SX Petrol (sorry !!).

Anyway, recently started having an issue initially with the car misfiring and jerking at speed on motorway - initially thought a bit of a fuel flow issue. More recently the car has started losing power early in the journey when in secon / third gear coming to a virtual standstill. I am then giving the car high revs and it springs back into life. The engine management light has also come on for short intervals then disappeared again.

Any ideas on cause and best way to resolve

Many Thanks

The man speaks sense. Surely the best course of action, if not at least visit a mate with mechanical knowledge.

Indeed an obvious reply, but always worth a quick question on PH to drawn apon it's abundant knowledge. Someone with the same car may of had the same or similar problem?

True enough sir, but it does seem to be more than most we see.

If the OP is like me (and needs to post to ask) it's best to seek some advice from a mate who can witness the issue. But I do take your point, and it's well made.

How many Lacetti owners have you seen on here? hehe

But yeah, fair point.

My managers car was doing exactly that ... plus a bit of increasing rev's while your driving too yikes

It's an ECU problem ... only a Chevy dealer can sort it

No need to be sorry, pretty good car for the £££ ... my managers car has 88,000 on it & has only had 3 problems so far

ECU problem yours currently has
Leak on a power steering pipe
Broken tailgate handle

The 2 car's before it (Rover's) both had major engine problems at 50,000 & did not get past 3 years old

....

p.s. do you get a bit of a flat spot at around 5200 rpm ... his does, I hoped the "up-date" on the ECU would solve it but it didn't frown

It will be going to a garage. Like to be armed with abit of info at least and thought someone may be able to advise on likely problem if anyone has had any similar occurance with any other vehicle.

Has to be Chevy garage (as in my reply)

Our normal garage could not find the fault ... I don't think it throws up a fault

Chevy garage "up-dated" the ECU

Those engines are just an old Vauxhall lump, and I'd bet my dinner it's the coilpack.

I have a Lacetti estate 1.8 and it also has started misfiring with the EM light coming on /off intermittently, took it to local friendly grease monkey who checked it over, and reported back its the MPS manifold pressure sensor. If it continues take it to Chevrolet............ it has come back and gone again time after time, I'm holding out for the time being in order to save up for a new switch, cos I just know Chevrolet will want my arm...my leg... and anything else they can get hold of to pay for it!! good luck with your problem wink
