evo 4 5 6???????
Discussion
hmmm, from what i know... the 4 is where evo started to get serious so really don't consider anything before that. the evo's are a little more high maintenance than the suby's, but do reward for doing so. don't fool yourself, either car is an immensely satisfying experience to own, drive or even marry. personally i think it comes down to either looks or sound. no car looks tougher than a nasty evo 6, but no car sounds sweeter (well no turbo 4 anyway) than a straight thru suby with a pipe big enough to transport your pets in. criticism has been aimed at evo handling better than the sube, bit this can always be addressed aftermarket.
personally having owned a suby for 3 years now, the only reason i want to get an evo is for something different. rex's are very common in australia and evo's are rare as...ergo

oh and sorry, 4/5/6 is mainly bodywork. there were minor tweaks between each stage things like slightly different turbo/revised water spray/minor suspension change/slight torque increase. as far as i'm aware, there were no massive changes until the 7 came out (and it looks like a pigs arse - but "is a more rounded car" - read - soft)
The Evos really need to be compared with the the Subaru WRX STIs, rather than the standard UK Turbos (old shape), or UK WRX (new shape).
Of the official old shape UK cars, only the 22B & the P1 are a similar spec & performance. The P1 is a more relaxing drive, although not ultimately as sharp (these statements are both relative
)
I think that Mojocvh is probably right on the engine tunability stakes - it's hard to get a Scooby over 350BHP, although the Evo probably has a less robust geartrain (I know people that have had problems with this after going from Scoobys to Evos).
