Clutch gone or Hydraulic seals ?
Discussion
Well went out today got as far as 10 miles from home when clutch pedal dissappears into the floor and 2 big puffs of smoke out of the exhausts, all this while in the fast lane of the A13 in Essex, managed to get it into a layby before it completely stopped rolling.
Got recovered home in about 45 mintues which was pretty good, car sitting outside and I know it is thinking "Why am I not in the garage" but unfortunately its going to have to stay there until I get it sorted.
So options, im thinking seals on the slave or full slave replacement or worst case clutch, anyone had this before ?
Ive not had an opportunity to look underneath and to be honest I have no clue what im looking for.
But on a happier note a nice Red 8 went passed lol oh the irony.

Sorry to hear about the problem Badboyburt, it don't feel good when things like this happen, do you have the standard clutch? How many miles the car done? like GSD mentioned, it could have contaminated the friction plate in clutch.
May be worth thinking about having an LS7 clutch fitted, sure MF have them in stock, but what has me thinking, when you mentioned there was lots of smoke out the back of the car when you pushed the pedal down, perhaps its not the slave but the pipe going to the slave and the smoke is all the clutch fluid oil going over the exhaust pipe which I think is quite close by.
EssexVXR8 is in your neck of the woods, perhaps he may know more.

This thread worries me, I recently had the clutch done without a new slave cylinder (2004 cv8, probably still on the original). How common is slave failure?
becoming more common, it is best to swap it at the same time as the clutch for piece of mind. Its cheaper in the long rungsd2000 said:

Its cheaper in the long runIf you are replacing a whole clutch and release bearing assembly, why not splash out a few extra £££'s, and get a replacement seal kit for the slave? It sits in a pretty harsh environment.
Do you have to split the gearbox from the engine to get at these, or are the external with a push-rod?

I'd go with that, too.

Arse, was afraid you'd say that. Would've done it if asked, but slipped my mind.If you are replacing a whole clutch and release bearing assembly, why not splash out a few extra £££'s, and get a replacement seal kit for the slave? It sits in a pretty harsh environment.

We do have them in stock. Rather more than monaro ones for no apparant reason though.
How much are they?
Sorry for the hijack badboyburt, hopefully just pre-empting your next question.
No problem pre-empting KMud, im thinking along the lines of a few k to get this back on the road, and in time for Le-Mans.
I have the car at home and as Monkfish is miles away is there any garages anyone knows of in the Essex area who could fit the parts ?
Cheers for all the info guys, much appreciated.

Cheers snowwolf, Car has done 31k on 2nd clutch, first replacement was done under warranty early 2010 around 18K this was done at Browns of Loughton so I am presuming it is a standard clutch.
When I came to a stop at the roadside there was not a drop of fluid coming from anywhere under the car, Ill see if I can get hold of Richard and see if he can pop over to have a nose.
Anyone heard of this clutch, seems too cheap

Luk are the biggest supplier of clutches & i fit loads of them very rare to have an issue & i really wouldnt be suprised if they make the oe clutch for Vauxhall. If you can get the kit number then you should be able to get the kit from Euro car parts or similar.
Listing for corvette here if someone can confirm the corvette clutch is the same?

By the time you import the clutch, pay shipping, import duties etc, it really isnt going to be much cheaper than a UK source.
The Corvette and Camaro etc do use the same clutch/flywheel although their slave cylinder has a quick release fitting on it instead of the silly solid pipe the Aussie cars use.
No big deal as the main body is the same so should be an easy swap of fittings.
I'd be amazed if LuK offered a replacement clutch in the UK for them though.
