So last Sunday I get a phone call from Santander revealing my bank card has been cloned and someone has just tried to spend nearly £200 of my hard earned cash on clothes. Card blocked, had to borrow cash and put fuel on a credit card for the last week. Some absolute scum out there.

This morning, brilliant - my new card arrives! Along with a heart attack moment when I open up a notice of intended prosecution for doing 59 in a 50 near Bournemouth back in March. I've never been to Bournemouth and they have one letter wrong on the reg plate. In addition to this I would have been at work.

Feel like I'm being targeted lol!

If the registration's wrong, how did they send it to you?

You're not an "Enemy of the State" are you?

Spending your cash without permission isn't good at all...especially on clothes, beer, well that's another story!

I'm sure if you can prove your whereabouts at such time as the offence took place you should be ok.

I'm sure if you have reliable witnesses at work who are willing to speak on your behalf everything will be fine.

Juice of some description seems to be the folly of the petrolhead, amber nectar or fuel!

Well they've taken their time to send out the NIP. I believe six months is the deadline for prosecution (maybe someone in the know could clarify). They're usually received within two weeks of the offence.
If your reg is one digit out, maybe they couldn't find the other vehicle/owner & took a stab in the dark so to speak.

If it's a camera they have to issue a NIP within 14 days. All the Police ave to do is prove that the NIP wa issued to you within the 14 day period regardless of when it was delivered to you. Look at the issue date, if it is after the 14 day period then it is out of date and no prosecution can take place.

Any summons to appear in court has to be issued within 6 months of the offence taking place, that's the law.

If the reg number is deiffeent from your car's then there is no offence to answer. Add that you can prove you were elsewhere, again they cannot prosecute you. Is it the same make and model of car? Ask for a picture from the camera.

NIP only has to be issued to the registered keeper within 14 days from the date that the offence happened.

Either your car has been cloned, or someone borrowed your car. I can't under stand how a bill would find it's way to you, if the registration number was wrong.

And publicise the fact on local radio if you can. IMO far more people get sent wrong NIP's etc than we ever hear about, and I wouldnt be surprised if many of them wrongly accept the punishment because they dont know how to fight it.

There have been cases here where the have got the road wrong, cars wrong, speed limit wrong etc etc
And there is no doubt people have just accepted it because they either didnt know or werent sure about circumstances.

Worst part is their 'ticket' office hours are weekdays 10-3 so I have to wait. What good is that to most people??

I'd send them a letter, telling THEM to ring you. Make sure you also take out a premium 'phone number, to earn something from the call. hehe

I'd be inclined to do nothing and then turn up to court, provide evidence to prove their incompetence, and then claim for lost wages, pain and suffering etc

Well, I had a go at them on the phone, not that they wanted to believe me at first stating that the vehicle was insured at my address...until I told them to read the plate carefully.

Letter of apology received...perhaps I should frame it! Joke.
