Disadvantages:
Lol, thanks! Will give it a go later tho may have to invest in a trim tool - always just used a bent fork!- the clips are bastids - proper trim tool advised
- inside the bonnet isn't fully painted
- releases the spider carcasses
See they're a reasonable £75 from MF if I really need to get a new one...

Holy old thread resurrection Batman....
Well, result of a search to see what other knowledge is there first, before starting a fresh thread.....
Looking to refurb the under bonnet insulation on the CV8. Like others, I guess from the original thread here, it was getting tatty. Removed today, and its really just the fabric covering over the yellow insulation. As the panel is sculpted to fit, I am not really minded to replace with the general purpose sticky back foam kits that abound. Instead, I am minded to peel off the tatty fabric, back to sound yellow insulation, spray the insulation with adhesive, then apply a suitable black fabric to resurrect the panel. Thing is, any fabric used would need to be both heat and fire resistant. The former to stop it shrivelling up in the heat, the latter to stop it being the source of ignition that sets the rest of the car on fire!
Anyone done this and have any recommendations? Seeing lots of black "fire retardant" fabrics on speciality fabric supply sites, but not sure how it would fare in an engine bay.....

I took mine off a couple of years ago as it was very tatty ( 04 Cv8 ) - as with others, I just never put it back. Never noticed any difference, apart from having to anti-rust primer some freshly revealed brown bits. Obviously this is of no help to you at all !
Au contraire - It is still a help, as its always the other option - Go naked. I don't have any hidden brown bits (Oh er missus) so its an option. Just looking to see if I can preserve originality. I am seeing I can get Nomex by the half yard from the states, so might just send for that as its definately and inherently heat and fire proof. If it ends up looking untidy, I can just leave the insulation out.Gassing Station | HSV & Monaro | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
