Just had a call from a fellow owner who's filler flap release mechanism isn't working. Does anybody know the best solution? Is there a redundancy built into it somewhere?

Thanks

I had this. I can't see what exactly the problem is so I have just undone the two bolts and removed the lock completely.

Cheers Guys, thumbup

I 'solved' the problem - Small boot Monaro (VXR) with Low fuel light and fuel filler cap not opening with the lever; by opening the boot pulling back the liner behind the filler cap and giving the cable outer a good hard tug towards the rear of the vehicle eek

The question now is how to fix the assy so it works properly again..? confused

Suppose it depends if the cable has stretched enough so when you pull the lever inside the cabin, it hasn't got enough torsion to open the filler cap?

Possibly a good squirt of WD40/Lubricating Oil might do the trick, or even try to shorten the cable, wrap it around a screw etc to see if making it shorter works.

Don't forget to post up the fix tho thumbup

Buy a vxr8.
That will fix it, no cable there.

No. there's a servo to lock the flap, and the servo fails. Ask Leigh1050 about Spa in 2012, when he was low on fuel. eek

Repaired my CV8 fuel flap recently. Undo the two bolts, pull lock out. Carefully prise the top of the plastic casing off. I expect you will find that the spring is broken (my was in 12 pieces). Replace spring (about 1") and job done. Or buy a new cable for about £46 and spend 2 hours ripping the interior apart to replace.
